Itinerary: 6 Days from Fez to Marrakech
Upon arrival at the airport or meeting point in Fez, our team will welcome you and transfer you to your riad in the medina. This first day will be dedicated to exploring the imperial city of Fez, one of the cultural and spiritual capitals of Morocco, with an official guide.
The tour will begin in the old walled medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you'll walk through its labyrinthine streets steeped in history. You'll visit the University of Al Quaraouiyine., Considered the oldest in the world, the ancient Chouara tanneries, the Andalusian quarter, the madrasas, mosques and palaces that give life to this ancient city.
Your guide will also show you the artisan souks, where traditional crafts such as pottery, leather, and weaving are still preserved. At the end of the day, return to the riad to rest and prepare for your adventure south.
After breakfast at the riad, we'll head south across the Middle Atlas. Our first stop will be Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco" for its alpine architecture and European flair. We'll continue to the cedar forest of Azrou, home to the famous Barbary apes, where you can enjoy a pleasant walk and take photos.
The route continues through mountains, gorges, and volcanic plateaus until reaching Midelt, where we'll stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we'll descend through the spectacular Ziz Valley, an oasis with thousands of palm trees that stretches to Erfoud, land of fossils and dates.
At dusk, we'll arrive in the Merzouga Desert, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi will welcome us. We'll settle into a charming riad overlooking the dunes, have a traditional dinner, and spend the night in the magical silence of the desert.
Today we'll spend the day exploring the Merzouga Desert and its surroundings in depth. After breakfast, we'll enjoy a 4x4 excursion that will take us to visit nomads in the middle of the desert, ancient fossil mines, and the village of Khamlia, where we'll be welcomed with Berber hospitality and traditional Gnawa music.
At noon, I'll return to the riad to rest, and in the afternoon, we'll prepare for one of the most anticipated experiences of the trip: a camel ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes, right at the magical moment of sunset.
After gazing at the sky tinged with gold and red, we'll arrive at the Berber camp in the heart of the desert, where a traditional dinner will await us to the beat of drums around the fire. Spending the night under a starry sky in a private tent will undoubtedly be one of the most unforgettable memories of the trip.
We'll wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, a natural spectacle that marks the beginning of a new day in the desert. After breakfast, we'll head to Rissani, a historic site that was the caravan capital and the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty.
We'll continue to the impressive Todgha Gorges, a natural canyon with rock walls reaching over 300 meters high, where you can stroll along the riverbank and admire the grandeur of this landscape.
In the afternoon, the route will take us through Berber villages to the Dades Valley, famous for its rock formations known as "monkey fingers" and its stunning landscapes. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional riad overlooking the valley.
After breakfast, we'll explore the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, a route filled with adobe fortresses showcasing traditional Berber architecture. We'll then cross the Valley of Roses, known for its perfumes and distilleries, to reach Ouarzazate, where we'll visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and the famous film studios.
The journey continues to the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified ksar has been the setting for films such as Gladiator, Juego de Tronos o Lawrence de Arabia.
Finally, we'll cross the Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass, at an altitude of 2,260 meters, enjoying spectacular views of the High Atlas Mountains, before arriving in Marrakech in the afternoon. Dinner is free and overnight stay is provided in a riad in the medina.
On our last day, we'll enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech, a vibrant city steeped in history. With an official guide, you'll discover Jemaa el-Fna Square, with its snake charmers, musicians, and artisans; the Koutoubia Mosque, a symbol of the city; the Ben Youssef Madrasa, a former Koranic school of great beauty; the Bahia Palace; and the Majorelle Gardens.
